Such issues arose in Squid Game, where the Korean word “oppa,” used by women to address an elder brother or man a few years their senior, became “old man” and “babe” in different scenes, while “ajumma,” which refers to a middle-aged married woman, was translated as “grandma.” Unsurprisingly, given the scale of the show’s success, Netflix took a fair measure of heat on social media from bilingual viewers worldwide over the clumsy treatment of Korean cultural nuances. These have no direct equivalent in English or many other languages, creating headaches for those translating across them. In East Asian languages, for example, there are terms used specifically for older and younger siblings, and aunts and uncles, which also have culturally specific meanings when applied to people outside the family. The task is difficult enough when the meaning is straightforward - but when translating across cultures, it seldom is.Īs complex expressions of language, scripts often contain words that don’t translate well, jokes that don’t travel, cultural references that are meaningless to outsiders, and even concepts that have no equivalent in other countries. Workers in the field are generally required to limit the length of their subtitles to approximately half the number of letters or characters that are available for an audio dubbing script, but they also are expected to retain the full meaning of dialogue while making it so easily readable that it doesn’t detract from the enjoyment of the onscreen action. There is a widespread lack of appreciation in the industry for just how challenging the work of a subtitler can be, insiders say. So we’re constantly working to improve them.” Lone Scherfig's Creative Alliance, Nordisk Film Join ForcesĪsked about its quality control, a Netflix spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter, “Generally, we think our subtitles and dubbing are good but not yet great.

The new driver also adds support for new 3D Vision-ready projectors – Acer X110, Optoma GT360, NEC NP216. They are both packed as a 3D Vision Driver CD version 1.31 beta, so it is easier to download the full package all at once, as is has the 32-bit and 64-bit drivers all in one package.īesides the addition of support for the 3D Vision Surround technology, the new drivers also come with a fix for the problem with the ViewSonic PJD 6531w not being detected by the 3D Vision Setup Wizard. Now bear in mind that this is a beta driver and there is a GPU driver and a 3D Vision driver version 258.69 and you need both in order to be able to take advantage of the 3D Vision Surround technology supported in them. I’m sure that some of you have had their 3x 120Hz 3D-capable monitors along with two Fermi cards in SLI ready and waiting for some time, but now the driver version 258.69 is finally available with support for the 3D Vision Surround. – Download the 3D Vision Driver CD Version 1.44 Beta (266.35) for Laptops – Download the 3D Vision Driver CD Version 1.44 Beta (266.35) for Desktop PCs Interestingly enough the mobile version does not mention the 3D Vision Window mode as the desktop version does, but that does not necessarily mean it is not supported. The mobile version of the drivers has pretty much the same features and it also mentions added support for new 3D Vision notebooks: Acer Aspire 5745DG, ASUS G53Jw, ASUS G73Jw. The release notes also mention support for some new 3D-capable LCD monitors, but these were actually added in earlier releases, so they are not entirely a new feature for the 266.35 drivers. Nvidia Surround is also updated, with improved performance for 3-way and 4-way SLI configurations, as well as an updated 3D Vision Surround and NVIDIA Surround game support list, although the new list is still not available on Nvidia’s website. But more interesting and important is the significant update that includes support for more recent Mitsubishi 3D DLP television sets, including the 2010 series that also got a free firmware update to support HDMI 1.4 stereo 3D input. The new driver also adds support for two new 3D Vision projectors: Acer X1261P and Sanyo PDG-DXL2000. The drivers also support stereo 3D window mode in Google Earth, finally. As you can see from the titles here, there seem to be quite a lot of Asian games that don’t seem very well known, at least to me, with them also getting official 3D Vision profiles along with a few other games. The full list of games that should work in window mode in stereo 3D with the new driver is as follows: Aion, Crazy Racing Kart Rider, Crossfire, Dragon Nest, EverQuest 2, Guild Wars 2, NED, PopKart, QQ Dance QQ, QQ Xian Xia, Tian Long Ba Bu, World of Warcraft – Burning Crusade, World of Warcraft – Wrath of the Lich King, Xun Xian and Zhu Xian 2. This seems to be a bit of a challenge as you have to define the apps that should be in 3D mode in order for things to work, so maybe Nvidia is working on another profiling method, or more like extending the 3D Vision profiles, with MMO games being the priority. This means that you will be able to play these games in stereo 3D mode not only in full screen, but also in a window mode in stereo 3D while at the same time you may have other 2D applications also open. Nvidia has been mentioning 3D Vision Window Mode support for games as an upcoming feature for quite some time and now it seems that it is finally making its appearance as the release notes mention 15 games that already support it. And since I’ve already discussed that in a bit more detail in the previous post, I’ll just cover the other new features made available, as they also deserve some attention… One of the major new features in the new drivers is the addition for the option to view 3D photos directly in the browser window at the new updated community portal also updated today. This also marks the first officially available version of the release 265 drivers which is the next major update in terms of features that has been released after the R260 not too long ago. Today Nvidia has released a new beta driver CD version 1.44 for 3D Vision that is based on the new beta video and 3D Vision driver number 266.35. Ernest McNab who was indicated by the secret numeric code that Roger had found, but he turns the tables on Roger, capturing him, then locking him in an ambulance with Rebecca's dead body in order to wait out his last hour to dissolution. Randi tells Roger that she too is undead, having been one of Laudermilk's first test subjects for resurrection, shortly before abruptly dissolving while asking for Roger's forgiveness. Upon returning to Randi's home, they find Doug dead, having been suspended and drowned in a fish tank for some time. While there, they encounter a numeric code, which Roger discovers later is a vital clue. He and Randi pay a visit to Laudermilk's tomb and Randi admits she's not his daughter, more a protégé or daughter he'd never had. The two of them pay another visit to Rebecca, who says that she might have found a way to keep Roger in healthy condition indefinitely, but the unsure nature of the theory has him decide to spend his final hours finding the man who killed him. Randi says that she is the daughter of a rich industrialist, and the owner of the company she works for until his death, Arthur P. They go to Randi's house just shortly before she is attacked by two more undead thugs, which the partners are able to subdue. Roger decides to take this time to find and exact his vengeance on the person who killed him. He says he feels fine, yet he has no heart beat and his skin is cold to the touch, Rebecca surmises he has about twelve hours before the reanimation process ends and he dissolves into a puddle of mush. When Doug wanders off to investigate a suspicious room, he encounters the reanimated corpse of a biker on a strange machine and in the fray, Roger is knocked into a decompression room used to humanely kill failed test animals and is asphyxiated to death.Įncountering the machine, and realizing it is capable of bringing people back from the dead, Rebecca and Doug successfully bring Roger back from the dead. Mortis and Bigelow investigate and meet the company's head public relations person, Randi James who gives them a tour of the facility. There is a preservative chemical compound found in the bodies that connect the pair of detectives to a company that had ordered a great amount of it recently. Meanwhile, a coroner friend of Roger's, Rebecca informs the detectives that the two bodies they had brought in had previously been to the morgue: not only do they have autopsy scars, but she herself clearly remembers performing the autopsy and has pictures to prove it, suggesting they simply got up and left the morgue of their own volition. Thanks to the combined, albeit extreme measures of Mortis and Bigelow, they are able to take out the criminals, their acts narrowly avoiding termination. The robbers take on a squadron of police in a messy shootout, but neither seem affected when they are riddled with bullets. 1.Detectives Roger Mortis and Doug Bigelow are called to the scene of a rather violent jewelry store robbery. Whatever the psychology behind it, the marriage of sex and mystery is a proven cinematic institution. The most sexual beings in these stories are drawn to the most perilous situations. There's also the implication that sex is something dangerous and impossible to control. What makes mystery and sex such excellent bedfellows? I think it's partly because misdirection of both the hero and the audience are necessary pretty people and compromising situations are a great distraction. The 16 sexy mystery movies you'll see below are a mix of the old and the new: a little Amy Dunne, for the innovators and a little Lisa Fremont, for the purists. More recent releases build on and subvert the mystery-romance tropes defined by those classics, giving movie fans a fresh take on a forever popular genre. Going back to prolific director Alfred Hitchcock and his taste in sultry, well-dressed leads and slinky detective stories starring real-life lovers Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, Hollywood has long known the value of a sexy whodunnit. (Just throw those two treats together and shake, trust me.) The film canon is well stocked with mystery movies and thrillers with a provocative streak. Mysteries and sex appeal go as well together at the movies as M&Ms and popcorn.
I tried removing all updates for the game and re-downloading them. I have also tried removing data for the game, including my profile (I have to replay the intro level again), no go. I've tried that and nothing changes for me. It seems like for those people, resetting pod decorations fixed the issue. I have looked online and it seems a common problem for this is that some moon or planet somehow blocks view of the pod computer. But get in front of or behind the pod computer, nothing. If I'm away from the pod computer and hit square, the costume menu pops up over Sackboy. My game does not prompt me to hit square or anything else, no matter where I go on the screen. I've seen gameplay footage on YouTube where you just run up and hit square. I cannot access the pod computer (the PS3 controller). Then a cutscene plays and I'm dropped into the pod. I'm able to play through the intro level with the credits. After downloading and installing updates for an hour, I finally got into the game. I just got LBP2 Special Edition and popped it in.
